Marjorie Taylor Greene (May 27, 1974), commonly known by her initials MTG, is a far-right conspiracy theorist, politician, and entrepreneur who has served as Georgia’s 14th congressional district’s representative since 2021.
She was a member of the Republican Party and was first elected to Congress in 2020 after Republican incumbent Tom Graves retired. She was then re-elected in 2022. Greene has supported conspiracy theories that are antisemitic, white nationalist, and far-right, such as QAnon, Pizzagate, and the thesis of the white genocide.
Along with 9/11 conspiracy ideas, she has advocated for the government’s involvement in American mass shootings, the Clinton family’s senseless killings, and other extreme conspiracy theories. She advocated for the execution of important Democratic Party figures including Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama before declaring for the Congress.
As a representative, she linked the COVID-19 safety regulations to the persecution of Jews during the Holocaust and compared the Democratic Party to Nazis, eventually retracting her remarks. Greene supported Russian propaganda and lauded Vladimir Putin during the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Greene describes himself as a nationalist Christian. Strongly backing the former president Donald Trump, Greene helped and encouraged Trump to try to rig the 2020 U.S. presidential election. Greene has since backed Trump’s fabricated allegations that the election was rigged.
As a member of the Sedition Caucus, a group of Republican lawmakers who unsuccessfully challenged votes cast for Joe Biden in the 2021 United States Electoral College vote count even though federal agencies and courts monitoring the election found no evidence of electoral fraud, she called for the results of the 2020 U.S. presidential election in Georgia to be declared invalid.
Greene submitted articles of impeachment claiming misuse of power a few days after Biden’s inauguration. Due to her words and support for political violence, the U.S. House of Representatives decided on February 4, 2021, to remove her from all committee positions. Eleven Republicans voted together with all of the Democrats. In January 2023, she was assigned to new committee positions.

Greene launched her campaign for Georgia’s 6th congressional district in 2019, but after learning that incumbent Tom Graves would not be running there, she changed her focus to the 14th.
Greene supported far-right extremist organizations during her campaign, spoke at pro-gun rallies, and posted pictures of herself holding assault weapons while threatening to use them against House Democrats like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Greene won the general election after Kevin Van Ausdal withdrew from the contest. Greene started spreading the Big Lie that Trump won the 2020 presidential election on her first day in Congress.
She persisted in denying the election results and determined to get them overturned. For instance, Greene asked for the decertification of Georgia’s results and contested electoral votes during the Electoral College vote count.
She drafted articles of impeachment the day following Biden’s inauguration, falsely charging misuse of power. In addition to her other provocative actions, Greene gave a speech at a white nationalist gathering, praising both Putin’s invasion of Ukraine and the attack on the Capitol on January 6.
The House of Representatives launched a resolution to remove Greene from her committee duties due to this and other risky behavior, including her many threats to her colleagues.
