Where Did Jokic Play Before Coming to the NBA?
Nikola Jokić, who stands at an impressive seven feet tall, played his first professional basketball games in his home Serbia before being drafted by the Denver Nuggets in the second round of the 2014 NBA Draft.
Jokic had low expectations for himself when he first arrived in Denver, and he wasn’t expecting to see a lot of action as a rookie. A guy who was not expected to play a significant role for the Nuggets did so during the 2015-16 season.
Despite skepticism, he played in 80 games, 55 of which he started, and contributed 10 points and seven boards per contest. Because of his outstanding performance, he was named to the NBA’s Rookie First Team.
At seventeen in 2012, Jokić signed a professional basketball deal with the Serbian side KK Mega Basketball, which plays in the Adriatic Basketball Association (ABA) and the Serbian League. In his first year with the club, he mostly saw action in the junior team but also made five appearances at the senior level.
He had a more significant role in the team’s success in his second season, appearing in 25 ABA games and 13 Serbian League contests. In the 2014 NBA Draft, Denver’s Nuggets selected Jokić with selection #41.
