Charleston Police Department Chief Luther Reynolds died from cancer at a hospice facility on 22 May. Reynolds spent 30 years with the Montgomery County Department of Police before moving to South Carolina in 2018.

Luther Reynolds, 56, chief of police of Charleston, died of cancer. According to a Facebook post from the department, Chief Luther Reynolds passed away Monday night in a hospice facility with his wife and two children.

Luther Reynolds Career
He was Captain/Station Commander in the 2nd District from 2000 to 2002. He oversaw the Personnel Department as its Captain/Director from 2002 to 2005. He served as Captain/Director of the Training and Education Department from 2005 until 2008. He commanded the Special Operations Division as captain from 2008-2010.
He commanded the 5th District as its captain and station chief from 2010 until 2013. From 2013 to 2017, he served as the Administrative Bureau’s Assistant Chief. From October 2017 to April 2018, he was also the Assistant Chief of the Patrol Bureau.
