Who Killed Notti Osama?
Kelvin Martinez, who was 15 then, was arrested by police and charged with first-degree manslaughter and illegal possession. He was first charged with second-degree murder, but the charges were changed when it came out that Osama had Martinez cornered and threatened to kill him with a broomstick.
His stab wounds were taken care of at the New York Presbyterian Hospital. The Manhattan District Attorney’s office says Osama and Martinez were “part of different gangs.”
In a statement, Richard Davey, president of MTA NYC Transit, said, “We thank NYPD detectives, with whom we worked together, for quickly catching a suspect.” He also said, “The fact that he and the victim may have known each other shows how senseless this terrible thing was.”

Also, a drill rapper, Osama’s brother DD Osama talked about his brother’s de@th on the TikTok show What NYC Sounds Like. “I kept wondering, ‘What if I stayed?’ If I had stayed with him longer, he would be here now. If I had been there, he would be here right now.”

“He just got involved in street life stuff. He just happened to go down a path in a style of music where art turns into violence. If he had gone the way of a pop singer or any other type of artist or musician, he would have been very successful. Kelvin Ventura, who is Osama’s cousin, said of the rapper, “It just so happened that the style of music he chose led to violence.”
“His music was just something he always wanted to do. Ever since I can remember they would entertain us, him and his other brother would entertain us at Christmas parties, singing and dancing and performing. He was an entertainer, he liked music and dancing and entertaining was his life.” Lily Ortega, another cousin of Osama, said, “He was a very happy kid. He was very loving. He loved spending time with his family. It makes us feel happy because you can tell people really loved him for who he was.”
Why did Manhattan Police, Release Martinez?
In October 2022, the Manhattan District Attorney’s office stated that they had dropped all charges against Martinez because they couldn’t argue that he had acted in self-defense.
A spokeswoman said the 15-year-old used his knife against Osama to protect himself. Since this can’t be disputed, the charges were dropped. She confirmed that the choice was made based on interviews with witnesses and video surveillance.
