When Did Reese Witherspoon Found Her Production Company?
Reese launched Type A Films, her own production firm, in 2000. She joined forces with Bruna Papandrea’s 2012 startup, Make Movies. Pacific Standard is the new name for the company.
Pacific Standard’s production company was responsible for the Academy Award-nominated films “Gone Girl” and “Wild.” The year 2016 was a big one for Pacific Standard. The company debuted its production capabilities with the HBO show “Big Little Lies.”
Second, with Bruna Papandrea’s departure, Reese has become the company’s majority shareholder. Thirdly, Reese and Seth Rodsky, an executive at a private equity firm, joined up with Otter Media to launch a venture they called Hello Sunshine.
Pacific Standard is now an arm of Hello Sunshine. Hello, Sunshine received a sizable investment from Steve Jobs’s widow, Laurene Powell Jobs, in February 2019. Concurrently, Otter Media raised its investment.
A private equity firm sponsored by the Blackstone Group bought Hello Sunshine on August 1, 2021. According to reports, the company was valued at $900 million when sold.
The remaining ownership holdings owned by Reese and other insiders have been incorporated into the newly established entertainment firm after Blackstone reportedly paid $500 million in cash to buy out Laurene Powell Jobs and Otter Media.
