Forward Cédric Roussel was a Belgian professional football player who competed from 6 January 1978 to 24 June 2023. Gent was where Roussel began playing professionally in 1997. In 1999, he switched to Premier League team Coventry City. Despite his early success, he suffered from injuries and ultimately had to be traded to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Prior to his retirement in 2015, he played for a number of clubs, including Mons, Genk, Rubin Kazan, Standard Liège, Zulte Waregem, Brescia, and HSV Hoek. In 2003, Roussel made his debut for the Belgian national team. He began a profession in real estate after retiring.

Cedric Roussel, who was only 45 years old, reportedly experienced a heart arrest on Saturday afternoon and pαssed unexpectedly. After spending two seasons in the Premier League with Coventry City and scoring 11 goals during that time, the Belgian played 25 times for Wolves between 2001 and 2003.

Roussel signed with Wolves for two years, however in his second campaign at the Molineux, he was loaned to Belgian club Mons. Roussel later departed England in 2003 and signed a contract with Genk. The striker, who also earned three appearances for Belgium’s national team, later played for 11 more clubs across several different nations before finally calling it quits in 2015 and starting a career in real estate.

The Belgian National Team and his former clubs have paid respect to him following his unexpected pαssing. A spokeswoman for the latter team said: “We send our condolences to the family and friends of Cedric Roussel.”
