Her family revealed on Thursday that Josephine Chaplin, whose father was the legendary actor Charlie Chaplin. Josephine Chaplin passed away on July 13. She was 74 years old. The cause of death wasn’t disclosed right away.

She shared screen time with her father as a toddler in his movies “Limelight” from 1952 and “A Countess From Hong Kong” from 1967. As May, the unfaithful wife of the elderly Sir January (Hugh Griffith), she went on to feature in the 1972 films “L’odeur des Fauves” with future partner Maurice Ronet, “Escape to the Sun” with Laurence Harvey, and the X-rated “The Canterbury Tales” with Pier Paolo Pasolini.

One of her latter movies was “The Bay Boy” (1984), starring Liv Ullman and Kiefer Sutherland. She portrayed Hadley Richardson against Stacy Keach’s Ernest Hemingway in the 1998 miniseries “Hemingway.”

She oversaw the Chaplin office in Paris for many years and funded the construction of a statue of her father as the Little Tramp in Waterville, County Kerry, Ireland. In 1998, it was unveiled.

She was the third of Chaplin’s eight children with his fourth wife, Oona O’Neill, a playwright’s daughter, and was born in Santa Monica on March 28, 1949.

Nikki Sistovaris, a Greek businessman, and Josephine were married in 1969. In 1977, they got divorced. After that, she shared a home with “Purple Moon” actor Maurice Ronet until his passing in 1983. Jean-Claude Gardin, an archaeologist, and she were wed from 1989 until his passing in 2013.

She is survived by her sons Charly Sistovaris, Julien Ronet, and Arthur Gardin in addition to her siblings Geraldine and Michael. She is also survived by her sisters Victoria, Jane, and Annette, brothers Eugene, and Christopher.
