King of the Hill Actor Cause of Death
On King of the Hill, Johnny Hardwick was a voice actor best remembered for portraying Dale, Hank Hill’s best friend. He was 64. Police were called to Hardwick’s Texas house on Tuesday to check on his well-being, according to TMZ, which broke the story.
The official account of IGN shared a post on Facebook:
While there, they found his body. Although it has been reported that foul play has been ruled out, the reason for death is unknown. All 258 episodes of the defunct Fox series King of the Hill featured Hardwick as Dale Gribble, Hank’s chain-smoking bug exterminator neighbour and best friend.
He was slated to return in the next Hulu reboot. Hardwick had not finished filming the new episodes, a Hill insider told TVLine. Hank Hill, a propane salesman in Arlen, Texas, and his friends and family were the focus of the Fox television series King of the Hill, which ran for 13 seasons from 1997 to 2009.

The fictional Texas community will once more serve as the setting for the contemporary revival, which does not yet have a release date. Along with Hardwick, other original cast members who have been confirmed to return for the continuation include Mike Judge (Hank), Kathy Najimy (Hank’s wife Peggy), Pamela Adlon (Hank’s son Bobby), Stephen Root (Hank’s barber buddy Bill), and Pamela Adlon.
Along with Lauren Tom, who plays Minh the neighbour, Ashley Gardner plays Nancy, Dale’s wife, and Connie, Minh’s daughter. Toby Huss, who provided the voice of Minh’s husband Kahn in the Fox series, isn’t listed among the cast members of the revival.
During the Fox Run, Brittany Murphy, who provided the voice of Hank and Peggy’s innocent niece Luanne, passed away in 2009.
“Johnny Hardwick was an incredibly beloved member of the King of the Hill family, whose tremendous talent, brilliant humor and friendship will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to work with him over the past 25 years,” read a joint statement from 20th Television Animation and Hulu. “Our deepest condolences go out to his friends and family as we mourn the loss of one of the animation greats. His voice gave life to one of our most iconic characters, and he will be truly missed.”
