A sculpture of a Balloon Dog by a famous artist named Jeff Koons broke at a Miami gallery on February 16, 2023. Many people were visiting the gallery because of the Art Wynwood fair.
This sculpture in Miami was inspired by a much larger one that’s 12 feet tall and made of shiny steel. The big one is in Los Angeles. The smaller one that broke was only 15 inches tall and made of porcelain, and it costs around $42,000.
An artist named Stephen Gamson said everyone noticed when the small sculpture fell. It happened because a woman touched it, thinking it was a real balloon.

But someone who knows about art at the gallery said it was just an accident, and the sculpture was insured, so the woman didn’t have to pay for it.
Jeff Koons, the artist, hasn’t said anything about it yet, but in the past, one of his sculptures also broke in 2016. He said that it’s not so bad when objects get broken because they can be replaced.
