Leslie Jordan Biography
Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on April 29, 1955, Jordan grew up there. He completed high school at Brainerd. Jordan claimed that although she never fully understood him, his mother Peggy Ann Jordan (née Griffin; 1935–2022) was tolerant and sympathetic.
When Jordan was nearly 12 years old on March 31, 1967, a civilian Beechcraft Debonair jet crashed at Camp Shelby, Mississippi, killing Jordan’s father, Allen Bernard Jordan, a major in the US Army Reserve.
Jordan remarked in a 2014 interview that his upbringing as a Southern Baptist was challenging. “I underwent fourteen baptisms. Each time the preacher called on the sinners to come forward, “Oooh, I was out in the woods with that boy,” I would add. I should move forward now.”
