Nichole Coats Illness
On September 10, the model, 32, was discovered dead in her Los Angeles apartment. Her death was deemed “suspicious” at the time, and investigators declared they were “investigating all avenues.”
Her cause of death has now been determined to be cocaine and ethanol (drinking alcohol) toxicity by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. Her death was declared an accident and no other factors were given. The case is currently marked as pending.
The American Addiction Center states that using cocaine and alcohol together “may be dangerous,” since it “causes cardiotoxic effects and increases an individual’s risk of a potentially fatal overdose.”

After not hearing from the model for a few days, Coats’ father and aunt went to check on her and found her body last month, according to local broadcaster KTLA.
“I couldn’t recognize her,” her aunt May Stevens shared at the time. “I believe it was murder, I really do. She was kicking with one leg raised in the air. That person did not simply pass away while resting in bed.”
Two days later, when fellow model Maleesa Mooney was also discovered dead in her downtown Los Angeles apartment, further attention was paid to the investigation. After a homicide investigation, the 31-year-old’s cause of death was determined to be homicidal violence.

Nichole “Nikki” Coats’ Family Describe Finding Her Body
As previously reported by The Shade Room, the model’s family informed KTLA last month that Nichole’s bed was “covered in blood.” In a recent article regarding the medical examiner’s decision, the outlet restated this assertion.
May, Nichole’s aunt, had previously given a description of her niece’s condition upon discovery:
“I couldn’t recognize her. I believe it was murder, I really do. One of her legs was up in the air in a kicking position. That’s not somebody who just laid in their bed and died,” May said.
Nichole’s mother also spoke with KTLA last month while she awaited responses from the investigators:
“This is senseless, and I want some answers because my daughter is gone,” Sharon Coats said. “And it’s not fair. I want everybody to find out who did this to her. She shouldn’t be gone.”

Nichole’s Death Is Not Related to Another Dead Model, Police Say
Model Malessa Mooney was also discovered dead in her apartment two days after Nikki’s family found her dead. Because Nichole and Malessa lived close to each other and had similar jobs, the public was curious about their cases.
However, according to E! News, local authorities concluded last month that there is no connection between the instances. “No evidence to suggest that the deaths of Ms. Coats and Ms. Mooney are related to one another.” according to their statement from September 20.
The medical examiner has determined that Mooney’s cause of death is now “homicidal violence,” according to Fox LA. The report’s Cause D lists “other significant conditions.”
on the Sept. 12 finding, there have been no developments on any arrests. According to reports, Malessa’s sister Jourdin Pauline disclosed that the model was two months pregnant when she passed away.
