Bloom and his partner, Greg Mastel, were the top-ranked intercollegiate policy debate team in the country in 1985, however, they were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the National Debate Tournament that year by Loyola Marymount.

David Bloom, an NBC war correspondent, died on April 6, 2003, while on assignment in Iraq. Despite his meticulous planning for potential hazards, his untimely death surprised his loved ones and the globe. Bloom died as a result of complications from deep vein thrombosis, a blood clot that began in his legs and spread to his lungs, resulting in a fatal pulmonary embolism.
When he fell, he was embedded with the US military’s 3rd Infantry Division on its way to Baghdad. Bloom’s wife, Melanie, and their three daughters, twins Christine and Nicole Bloom (now 29) and Ava Bloom (now 23), survived him. In 1990, David tied the knot with Melanie Beal, his college sweetheart. After they moved to New York City, David worked his way up at NBC News, covering major stories like 9/11 and the presidential elections. Melanie Beal looked after their three children and supported her husband in his career aspirations. She also provided consulting services to public relations firms.

Following the passing of her first husband, David Bloom, Melanie Bloom remarried and had two additional children. The Blooms were residing in Pound Ridge, New York, at the time of his death. Following his death in 2008, Daniel Bloom’s widow remarried Daniel McNulty and started working with the Coalition to Prevent DVT.

Who Are David Bloom’s Daughters?
