“I’m 55 years old, I’ve never been married and I’m happy about it,” Smith said. “Now one could easily surmise that a past rife with some promiscuity, dare I say contributed to my desire to be single. But that is not the reason.”
Then, he explained his thinking, saying, “I am not upset about being single. Jeezy, how he filed for divorce from his wife, Jeannie Mai. After only two years of marriage. Former friends are saying she’s after his money.”
He then called out ‘The Shade Room,’ saying, “I hope the Shade Room is watching. My nephew tipped me off to that site and I’ve seen some of the things y’all talk about. Oh, you’re welcome on the Stephen A. Smith show, please come.”
He concluded by giving one last example: “If Kevin Costner’s monthly child support enables the children to maintain the quality of life he once provided, why should he have to pay extra so the wife he’s no longer with gets to maintain her quality of life? Y’all ain’t together.”

Stephen A. Smith Career
Smith started his career in print media with the New York Daily News, the Greensboro News & Record, and the Winston-Salem Journal. Smith started working as a reporter for The Philadelphia Inquirer in 1994.
He started off as an NBA columnist for the Philadelphia 76ers before transitioning to a general sports column. The Inquirer reported on August 23, 2007, that Smith would be returning to her previous role as general assignment reporter and would no longer be penning articles.
The Inquirer and Smith parted ways in 2008, the same year that Smith launched stephena.com, his personal blog. Following his reinstatement as a result of an arbitrator’s decision to provide him a second chance, Smith agreed to remove any political commentary from his website and from cable news programs, and he returned to The Philadelphia Inquirer in February 2010.
On February 1, 2011, it was announced that Smith would be joining ESPN again as a columnist for ESPN.com and host of weekday local radio shows on 710 ESPN Radio Los Angeles (KSPN-AM) at 6–8 p.m. PT and 1050 ESPN Radio New York (WEPN–AM) at 7–9 p.m. ET. Smith’s final broadcast for LA 710 ESPN took place on April 24, 2012.
The Stephen A. Smith & Ryan Ruocco Show premiered in May 2012 on the new 98.7 WEPN, replacing Robin Lundberg and Ryan Ruocco as part of ESPN New York’s transfer to 98.7 WRKS.
The show ran from 1-3 p.m. ET. Every show began with Smith’s trademark cold open “rant” during the pre-intro about a subject covered in the first segment. When Smith departed ESPN to join Chris Russo’s Mad Dog Sports Channel on Sirius XM Radio in the summer of 2013, the show came to an end.
The announcement of the relocation came just one day after Smith made some contentious remarks about the Ray Rice incident on ESPN2’s First Take show.
