Gypsy received a 10-year prison sentence in 2016 after entering a guilty plea to murder for her part in her mother Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard’s demise. She fulfilled her eligibility for early release in 2023 after completing 85% of her sentence.
Throughout Gypsy’s childhood, Dee Dee mistreated her both mentally and physically, leading everyone to believe that Gypsy was a terminally ill adolescent with the mental capacity of a 7-year-old. For a considerable amount of time, Gypsy believed this to be true.
Despite her ability to walk, she was forced to use a wheelchair, prescribed unnecessary drugs, and had her head shaved in an attempt to persuade their friends, family, and community that she had muscular dystrophy, leukaemia, and other illnesses. The abuse didn’t stop until 2015 when Gypsy’s ex-boyfriend Nicholas “Nick” Godejohn killed Dee Dee. Godejohn and Gypsy were both found guilty of the killing and given prison terms.

Why Did Gypsy Rose Blanchard Go to Jail?
In a shocking twist, Dee Dee was found stabbed to death in their home in 2015, when Gypsy Rose was 23 years old. In an attempt to free herself from the long-term abuse Gypsy had endured at the hands of her mother, Gypsy Rose and Nicholas Godejohn subsequently came up with and carried out a plan to assassinate Dee Dee. Following their discovery, both received prison sentences.
With Gypsy’s permission and forethought, Godejohn fatally stabbed Dee Dee Blanchard while she slept on the evening of June 14, 2015, in Springfield, Missouri. Using money they had taken from Dee Dee, the two then made their way to Godejohn’s home state of Wisconsin. Social media posts and online communications finally led to the tracking down of their places and conduct, which resulted in their arrest.
Gypsy took a plea agreement in 2016 and admitted to second-degree murder. She was given a 10-year prison sentence, which was deemed lenient because of the unique circumstances surrounding her abuse.
If Godejohn was the real attacker, he was going to get a harsher sentence. 2019 saw his conviction for first-degree murder, which carried a life sentence without the possibility of parole and a 25-year sentence for using a weapon in criminal activity.
Who is Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s Husband?
While completing her sentence in jail, Gypsy Rose married Ryan Scott Anderson in June 2022. It’s unclear how the two met or what he does for a profession.
Ryan is from Lake Charles, Louisiana, based on a marriage license that In Touch was able to secure. Despite their marriage, Gypsy announced in a letter to her family in November 2022 that she was seeking an annulment.
