A Judge in Las Vegas Commands the Attacker to Return to Court “by Any and All Means Necessary”

According to court filings, the man who jumped over the Las Vegas judge’s bench and injured her along with many staff members has been ordered to appear before her on Monday “by any means necessary.”

Deobra Redden, 30, a three-time criminal, was in Clark County District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthus’ courtroom for sentencing on a charge of attempted violence with significant bodily harm, as the 8 News Now Investigators initially reported. Holthus rushed over the bench and attacked Redden just as he was about to sentence her to prison.

The video that Redden gave with the 8 News Now Investigators showed her running up to her, jumping over the bench, and attacking her just as Holthus was about to refuse her probation request. Then Redden got into a fight with a few more guys, who then threw him to the ground.

According to the records, Redden leaped over the bench, smashed Holthus’s head against a wall, hit her once in the head, and removed a few hairs from her head. After that, she “balled up covering her face” and hid beneath her desk. The struggle that followed went on for a few minutes.

According to the records, Holthus’ marshal, Shane Brandon, had a gash on his face that required 25 stitches. At the moment, Brandon was getting ready to handcuff Redden. He also injured his shoulder dislocata.

According to the records, Redden also struck and attacked a prison guard who was in the courtroom. Michael Lasso, Holthus’ law clerk, sustained many cuts to his hand during the altercation.

According to records, Redden allegedly said to an officer in a holding cell next to the courthouse during the incident, “Judge has it out for me,” “Judge is evil,” and “I’m sorry you guys had to see that.” Redden asked him if what he did was wrong, according to another officer.

According to records that the 8 News Now Investigators first saw on Thursday, Redden also admitted to the prison officers that he had a rough day and had attempted to murder her.

Redden allegedly spat in a prison officer’s face as he was housed at the Clark County Detention Center, according to the police. According to Chief Judge Jerry Wiese, Holthus resumed his job on Thursday.

It appears that Holthus was also at work on Friday because further paperwork related to the initial attempt battery case was filed. Officers were instructed to bring Redden to court “by any means necessary” in the filing from Friday. Redden might still use video conference to appear in court from behind bars.

In a recent court case, Redden was charged with thirteen counts related to the attack on Wednesday. Bail’s arguments in that case are scheduled for Tuesday before Judge Holthus of the Las Vegas Justice Court.

Redden appeared before Holthus earlier this week on allegations of purposeful destruction of property, as the 8 News Now Investigators revealed on Wednesday.

According to records, he began serving a year in prison in 2021 on a domestic violence charge. A different court, in that instance, sentenced Redden to a term of 12 to 30 months in jail. In 2022, a board gave Redden parole.
