The country music diva initially hinted at a new romance on a January 2023 episode of Whine Down with Jana Kramer, though she didn’t disclose Allan Russell’s name at the time. Later that month, she declared their relationship public on Instagram.
Kramer had expressed reservations about starting a new relationship before divulging the identity of her then-boyfriend. Long-distance travel and uncertainty were among her fears. Russell proposed to Kramer after six and a half months of dating. The couple then welcomed their first child together, a son named Roman James, in November 2023.
Russell is the singer’s first public relationship following her breakup with lover Ian Schinelli in April 2022. Kramer was formerly married to Mike Caussin from May 2015 to July 2021, when they divorced. She and Caussin have two children, Jolie Rae and Jace Joseph.

Allan Russell is a Retired Scottish Soccer Player
Russell was born and reared in Glasgow, Scotland, before beginning his professional soccer career in 1999 with Hamilton Academical. He was a professional footballer for four years, making sixty league matches during that time.
The former Scottish athlete spent several years playing for several elite leagues around the UK, including St. Mirren, Macclesfield Town, Mansfield Town, and Airdrie, before drawing interest from Scottish elite League teams and eventually signing with Kilmarnock in 2008.
Russell carried his international abilities over the pond when his contract ended and signed with the American Football League’s Carolina RailHawks in July 2010. He played for the North Carolina club for one year before joining the Orange County Blues FC in 2014 as a defensive midfielder and striker.

Russell is a Soccer Coach in England Right Now
Russell transitioned from player to coach when he joined the England staff in March 2017 as a striker coach. His efforts were particularly noted and praised following an outstanding goal against Panama in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Russell returned to his native Scotland in April 2022 for a brief stint with Aberdeen Football Club before embarking on the interim job of co-head coach for Norwich City Football Club later that December.

Kramer told PEOPLE in September 2021 that dating apps were not for her. “I literally hated it,” she stated back then. However, the online dating service appeared to work out for the singer because it was the source of her initial connection with Russell.
Although she was first dubious, Kramer announced on her Whine Down with Jana Kramer podcast that she would give her international connection a try. “It just feels different,” she explained on the January 9 program. “Who I am in this relationship is who I’ve always wanted to be.”
Russell and Kramer Are in a Long-distance Relationship
The long-distance commitment required by a relationship with Russell contributed to Kramer’s doubts. “Even with him, I said, ‘No, this is silly. I’m a mom with two kids and I live in Nashville, like, how would this even work?'” she explained on her show.
However, “something about him” compelled her to answer, “‘Okay, well, let me just see, what does the conversation hurt, right?’ This just feels different.” She also stated that despite the distance, she and Russell were determined to see each other.
“We’re trying not to go more than three weeks without seeing each other,” she told the show. Despite the fact that the plan presents some difficulties due to their separate work schedules, Kramer stated that she is “trying not to put too much pressure on it.”
Russell Posted for the First Time With Kramer on Valentine’s Day
While Kramer made her love with Russell public in January 2023, the soccer player made his affair with the singer’s Instagram official on Valentine’s Day a month later. He posted a cute snapshot of himself cuddling up to Kramer and their dog.

Russell Debuted on the Red Carpet With Kramer at the Iheartradio Music Awards
Kramer made her red carpet debut with Russell at the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards in March, two months after revealing she was in a new relationship.
“I’m happy. I’m in a great relationship. He’s a wonderful man, and I’ve got amazing, healthy kids. I’m blessed. I feel very blessed,” she said of her connection with the soccer coach to PEOPLE. “I’m in a new chapter, and it feels really nice. For the first time I’m really embracing it, and I’m trying to sink in that I deserve this new chapter.”

Russell and Kramer Have a Child Together
Russell and Kramer’s son, Roman James, was born on November 13, 2023. “Allan and I are both overjoyed and truly grateful to announce the birth of our son. We feel blessed to have been given the chance to create something so special together,” the pair told PEOPLE. “James (his middle name) was both of our grandpa’s names, so that was a nod to them.”
In addition, the soccer coach has a teenage kid from a previous relationship. “He’s splitting his time because he has a 15-year-old son in England. We make it work,” Kramer said of their long-distance relationship to PEOPLE. “He is such a fun [dad].”

Russell Proposed to Jana After Six Months of Dating
In May 2023, Kramer revealed how Russell proposed to her on the Whine Down with Jana Kramer podcast. She claimed that the perfect moment occurred while she and her beau were throwing a modest pool party.
As dinner came to a close, Kramer mentioned that Russell proposed they go for a walk up to the new house they’re building with her kids. “It was a really beautiful night, and me and the kids were all sitting… on the front porch of the steps, and just looking out at the view,” she went on to say.
“And he said my name, and I got up or whatever and then he got down on one knee, and Jolie just started jumping up and down. It was the cutest thing ever, it’s like she knew what was happening,” Kramer exclaimed.
The actress admitted she “kind of blacked out” at the time, but recalls Russell telling her, “You’re the love of my life,” and asking for her hand in marriage. “We just both started crying, and it felt very sentimental given the front porch of the new house, new beginnings. It just felt right,” she explained.
“It was perfect. We were actually supposed to be in Jamaica but something happened with the resort so we ended up staying here, but honestly that’s exactly what I would have wanted, was at the house,” she said. “II don’t need the roses and the whole glam setup.”
