Excitement is building in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as fans speculate about the possibilities of a Logan 2 film starring the renowned Hugh Jackman. With anticipation building, many are asking if this highly anticipated sequel will enter theaters in 2024. Join us as we decipher the swirling rumors and explore the exciting possibility of Logan’s return to the big screen.
Is Hugh Jackman’s Logan 2 Teased for a 2024 Release?
A fan-made trailer has fueled suspicion that Disney and Marvel Studios are creating a sequel to 2017’s Logan, which featured Hugh Jackman’s most recent performance as James Logan/Wolverine.
Originating from the KH Studios YouTube page, the teaser suggested a meeting between Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange and Wolverine, in which the well-known mutant is brought back to life after Strange approaches him for a meeting.
Following Logan’s release in 2017, director James Mangold hinted at the possibility of Logan 2 or a spin-off. He told The Hollywood Reporter in October 2017 that he was “just working on a script” for a spin-off featuring X-23.

Following up on this, Mangold discussed the success of Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman in June 2017, which demonstrated to studios that there was “less to fear with a female protagonist” at the time.
“Patty [Jenkins]’s success with that film only solidifies more for studios that there’s less to fear with a female protagonist. The more that keeps getting hit home, that ends up giving me more space turning around and going, ‘Well here we are with a female protagonist. That’s incredible. And what are we going to do with her?’ And that’s where we are with that [the Laura script] right now, dreaming.”
Unfortunately, Mangold shared with Yahoo in 2019 that this spin-off would not be happening, indicating that Marvel was focused on figuring out “where they’re going in the future” with Wolverine:
“I think it’s probably – at least in the near time – gone, until I hear different,” he said. “With Hugh [Jackman] moving on, I think they’re going to be more interested in trying to figure out where they’re going in the future with these characters in general, and with Wolverine in specific.”
He also emphasized to Variety in 2023 his wish that the conversation about the story continuing did not end, realizing that Marvel was going to accomplish as much as it could with the character after acquiring the X-Men rights:
“I can’t say that there’s a part of me that doesn’t wish that we’d let it be. But there was always going to be another Wolverine. There could be a baby Wolverine and a cartoon Wolverine. As much liquid as they can squeeze out of that rag, they’re going to try to. I don’t measure my success on a movie like ‘Logan’ with whether we ended the conversation. I ended my conversation.”
The trailer itself can be disproven as phony. The 74-second video combines footage of Jackman from the original Logan film and 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Will Logan 2 Ever Happen?
Logan 2 does not appear to be on Marvel Studios’ production radar at this time, which means it will most likely not be produced in 2024. But, happily, there is still hope for Hugh Jackman to reprise his role as Wolverine, which has already been announced to take place under the MCU umbrella when he puts James Logan back into the forefront in Marvel Studios’ Deadpool 3.
Jackman is expected to co-lead Deadpool 3 alongside Reynolds, giving the legendary star a prominent position in the MCU that fans have long desired. This threequel is rumored to be Jackman’s final film as Wolverine, with many believing he’ll be done with the character after participating in Avengers: Secret Wars.
While Logan 2 appears to be dead in the water, Jackman’s first appearance in the MCU is already generating a lot of buzz, especially because Deadpool 3 is the only Marvel Studios film to come out this year. Logan is now available on Disney Plus.
