At KK Mega Basket in Serbia, Jokic was a player for Milojevic. The Nuggets player posted a photo of them with the message, “Deki, rest in peace! My sympathies to the family. Dejan, a former basketball player, started his playing career in 1994 with Beovuk as a power forward.

Before being traded to KK FMP, he spent four years playing for the Serbian team. Before going back to his own country, Dejan played for four more years with the Montenegro team Buducnost in 2000. After finishing his playing career with Galatasaray in 2009, Dejan joined KK Mega Basket as a coach three years later.

In 2021, Dejan became an assistant coach under Steve Kerr, which was his first NBA coaching role. “This is a shocking and tragic blow for everyone associated with the Warriors and an incredibly difficult time for his family, friends, and all of us who had the incredible pleasure to work with him,” said Steve Kerr in a statement following Dejan’s passing.

He further continued, “In addition to being a terrific basketball coach, Dejan was one of the most positive and beautiful human beings I have ever known, someone who brought joy and light to every single day with his passion and energy.”
