As a professor at UC Berkeley, Murray was awarded the 2014 Rutter Award, which is given to professors who are outstanding teachers and inspire their students. The next year, she became the head of a new center focused on issues around reproductive rights and justice, making it the first of its kind in a U.S. law school.

She also helped write the first detailed textbook on reproductive rights and justice. When the previous dean stepped down in 2016, Murray was chosen to temporarily lead UC Berkeley’s law school starting on March 22, 2016.
