People are curious about who Malia Obama is dating now and what she’s been doing since her family left the White House. Malia is the oldest daughter of former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama.
She was last linked to Rory Farquharson, a Harvard University student she started dating in 2017 and broke up with in the last few years. Now, it looks like Malia has a new man in her life.
Photos that Page Six got showed Malia, who is 24, on what looked like a date with music artist Dawit Eklund, who is 33. On August 4, 2022, they were taken at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
Malia was wearing a white crop top and green pants with a loose fit, while Dawit was wearing a beige T-shirt and green shorts with a picture of Bob Marley on the left leg. They were also caught on camera hugging, with Dawit’s hand on Malia’s waist while Malia stroked the back of his neck.

Dawit is one of the people who started the record label 1432 R in Washington, D.C., where Malia lived from January 2009 to January 2017 while her father was President of the United States. The Daily Mail also says that Dawit’s father is former State Department officer Jon Eklund, who worked at several U.S. embassies in Africa.
Yeshi Eklund, his mother, is from Ethiopia. The Daily Mail says that Malia and Dawit’s latest outing is their third public date. They were seen getting lunch together on July 26, 2022, and walking around Los Angeles on August 2, 2022.
Barack and Michelle also have a daughter named Sasha. She is dating the son of star Clifton Powell, Clifton Power Jr. In April 2022, Michelle talked about the romance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
They were big fans of the Jonas Brothers. “Now they’re bringing homegrown men,” she said at the time about her girls. “Before, there were just pop bands. They now have boyfriends and real lives.”
In 2020, Barack talked about what it was like to be quarantined with Malia and her most recent boyfriend, Rory Farquharson, on “The Bill Simmons” show. “He is English. “He’s British. A wonderful young man and he was sort of stuck because there was a whole visa thing and he had a job set up,” he said. “So we took him in, and I didn’t want to like him, but he’s a good kid. The only thing you discover . . . young men eat! It’s weird to watch them consume food. My grocery bill went up about 30 percent.”
He also talked about what the family did while they were stuck in quarantine. “Like I think a lot of families, we went through that first month where we were playing games every night and doing a little arts and crafts projects, and then slowly, they started to get a little bored with us,” he said.
Barack also told InStyle in November 2020 about how “badass” Malia has become. “Malia, she is just buoyant. She’s somebody who enjoys people, enjoys life, and enjoys conversation,” he said at the time. “She’s never bored, which is a badass quality that can take you places.”
