Dragon Caught Fire During Disneylands Fantasmic Show Saturday Night!

Some guests believed it was a show-related incident when a dragon at Disneyland caught fire on Saturday night. However, the incident that resulted in the prop catching fire was unintentional, and authorities were looking into what happened, according to Sgt. Jon McClintock, a spokesperson for the Anaheim Police Department and Anaheim Fire and Rescue, on Sunday.

According to him, at least six personnel received treatment for smoke inhalation but did not need any further testing. The fire was discovered at around 11 p.m. local time, 30 minutes after “Fantasmic!” had begun.

According to a Disneyland website description, the show has “stunning effects, thrilling stunts, dazzling pyrotechnics and rousing music,” in which Mickey Mouse has a dream in which he is a sorcerer’s apprentice. One of the story’s antagonists, Maleficent, is portrayed as a 45-foot dragon in a prop that sprays fire at one point in the performance.

According to a TikTok video, the fire began around the dragon’s head, spreading to its torso and neck as onlookers watched. “Your attention, please,” a voice said over a loudspeaker as the fire spread. “Due to unforeseen circumstances, this performance of ‘Fantasmic!’ will not continue. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”

Accountant Tim Turensek, who was in town from Minneapolis, claimed that when the prop started catching fire, he initially believed it was part of the performance. He said, “My sister and I were talking about how it was impressive.” “I was like, ‘Man, they can set that head on fire and it just stays perfectly intact?’ So we were kind of amazed at Disney at first and then realized it was not part of the show.”

Mr. Turensek could feel the heat of the fire from where he was standing, roughly 150 feet away. What the dragon prop was built of and what powered its fire effects were not immediately apparent. While the rest of the park was still open, the immediate vicinity of the fire was evacuated and shut down. Tom Sawyer Island, where the concert is held, was safely evacuated of staff, according to a statement from Disneyland.

“We are temporarily suspending fire effects similar to those used at Disneyland park’s ‘Fantasmic!’ at select shows and entertainment experiences globally out of an abundance of caution following the ‘Fantasmic!’ prop fire,” Disneyland said.
