The latest in a series of mysterious deαths among Russian elites, a lawmaker from Russia passed away on Saturday due to a heart condition.
According to the government, Pyotr Kucherenko, 46, the deputy minister of science and higher education for Russia, passed away on Saturday while traveling back from Cuba.
“Kucherenko was feeling ill while on a plane with a Russian delegation returning from a business trip to Cuba. The plane landed in the city of Mineralnye Vody, where doctors tried to assist,” the ministry said in a statement on its website, adding that the minister could not be rescued.
Heart Condition
His family suspected the deαth was related to his heart condition. Still, they would wait for the findings of an autopsy, an anonymous source close to the widow told state media, according to a news source.

Roman Super, a journalist who left Russia shortly after it invaded Ukraine in February last year, claimed on his Telegram channel to have spoken to Kucherenko “just days” before leaving. According to him, Kucherenko urged him to leave Russia out of concern for his safety.

“Save yourself and your family. Leave as soon as possible. You cannot imagine the degree of brutalization of our state. In a year, you won’t recognize Russia at all. By leaving, you are doing the right thing,” Kucherenko said, as cited by Super.

Super said that when he questioned Kucherenko about whether or not he also intended to leave Russia, the minister responded, “It is no longer possible. They took away our passports. And there is no world in which they can be satisfied with the Russian deputy minister after this fascist invasion.”
The journalist continued by reporting Kucherenko as having said he had been using tranquilizers and antidepressants: “I drink them by the handful. It doesn’t help. We’re all hostages. Nobody can say nothing. Otherwise, we are immediately squashed like insects.”
Senior Russian officials have reportedly been prohibited from leaving their positions in the Kremlin and the regions. Several governors, security force officers, and members of the presidential administration attempted to resign last week, according to IStories, an online investigative news site headed by renowned journalist Roman Anin and situated outside of Russia. Peskov rejected the report as a fabrication.
