After a record-breaking season in which he scored 28 goals for his second-division team, Kilmarnock signed Russell to a two-year contract in the Scottish Premier League in May 2008 after being named the league’s Player of the Year.
After his contract with Kilmarnock ended in 2010, he departed. On July 23, 2010, Russell inked an agreement with the Carolina RailHawks. He remained a team member until the 2011 season when they won back-to-back NASL titles in 2010 and 2011.

How Did Allan Russell Start His Coaching Career?
In March of 2017, Russell became the striker coach for the England national team. He was singled out for contributing to England’s set pieces after the squad scored a well-choreographed goal against Panama during the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

In April of 2021, Russell began juggling his roles as assistant first-team coach at Aberdeen and England. A month later, he resigned from his advisory position in England after admitting to letting his younger brother drive without insurance.
A few months after being named their set-piece coach, Norwich City announced in December 2022 that Russell and the club’s Head of Football Development, Steve Weaver, would be co-head coaches on an interim basis following the dismissal of manager Dean Smith.
