Samantha Weinstein, a Canadian actress from her early years who portrayed Heather, a high school girl, in the 2013 Carrie adaptation, has passed away. She was 28 years old.
Weinstein lost her battle with ovarian cαncer on May 14 at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto. Weinstein worked up until May 4, according to James Crammond, her agent at Noble Caplan Abrams in Toronto.
According to her Instagram account, she passed away on May 14 at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, which features a photo of her floating in space.
“After two and a half years of cαncer treatment, and a lifetime of jet setting around the world, voicing a plethora of cartoon animals, making music, and knowing more about life than most people ever will, she is off on her next adventure.”

Weinstein, born in Toronto on March 20, 1995, rose to prominence as Josephine in Big Girl, which won the Toronto Film Festival’s prize for best Canadian short film in 2005. The 10-year-old actress also won the award for best female performance that year from ACTRA.

She also portrayed Brooke in the independent drama Reign and a younger Hagar in filmmaker Kari Skogland’s adaptation of Margaret Laurence’s The Stone Angel novel. Dylan Baker and Ellen Burstyn were also featured in the movie.
On television, Weinstein appeared on the shows Being Erica, Less Than Kind, Copper, and Darknet, directed by Vincenzo Natali. She also did a lot of voice acting, notably for animated television shows. Additionally, Weinstein became the lead guitarist and singer for the Toronto garage rock group Ki!!er Virgins.
