Barbie’s Malibu Dreamhouse is on Airbnb
We’re all living in a Barbie world this summer, and lucky fans will get to spend the night in the iconic doll’s ideal home. In order to coincide with the July 21 debut of the live-action movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as the plastic power couple, Airbnb is opening up a very small number of spots at the Barbie Malibu DreamHouse.

The three-story house is highly pink and has a slide, roller rink, and pool with the letters “KEN” floating in the water, as first observed from the air by a CBS Los Angeles photojournalist on Sunday. The listing was confirmed by Airbnb on Monday in a statement.
In contrast to the last time the privately owned home was advertised on the website in 2019, Ken is the “host” and guests stay in his Western-themed bedroom, which includes an oversized horse, fringed shirts in the wardrobe, and a wall covered in cowboy hats. A “Kendom Saloon,” disco dance floor, roller rink, and exercise equipment are all visible in the photographs.

There is no guarantee that guests will see Ken; perhaps he will be off rollerblading the entire time. However, according to the listing, a concierge will take guests around and prepare meals. In keeping with the tone of the movie’s trailers, Airbnb enjoys making fun of the man.
The announcement reads, “All stays will be free of charge — because Ken couldn’t figure out how to put a price on Barbie’s Malibu DreamHouse — after all, Ken’s thing is the beach, not math!” Prior to this, a two-night stay for the brand’s 60th anniversary cost $60.
Only two one-night stays for a maximum of two persons each on July 21 and 22 will be permitted when the house becomes available for reservations on July 17. Tickets for the Barbie Dreamplane or other forms of transportation must be reserved and paid for by the visitors.
Although it’s obvious from the listing that the campaign is not a competition, it’s unclear how Airbnb will choose who gets to stay in Ken’s apartment.
“We all have dreams, and Barbie is lucky enough to have a house full of them,” the announcement quotes Ken as saying. “But now, it’s my turn, and I can’t wait to host guests inside these one-of-a-kinds — dare I say, one-of-a-Ken? — digs.”
