Michael Chiarello, Food Network star and famous chef, died on October 6, 2023, at the age of 61, after being brought to the hospital.

Chiarello was well-known for his appearances on Top Chef, Top Chef Masters, Chopped, and Next Iron Chef. He was a writer, executive producer, and star of the Daytime Emmy Award-winning show Easy Entertaining.

He moved to Napa Valley at the age of 24 after graduating from the famous Culinary Institute of America. He was born in California on January 26, 1962. Chiarello has been named Chef of the Year by Food & Wine magazine, and he received the same title from his alma university a decade later, in 1995.

Chiarello’s restaurant credits include the famed Tra Vigne, Bottega, and Ottimo (all in Napa Valley), as well as Coqueta (which has outlets in both San Francisco and Napa).

Chiarello established himself in the winemaking business around the turn of the century, and founded Chiarello Family Vineyards. He created NapaStyle, a retail line of artisanal foods and home products, in 2000. He was also a prolific author, receiving awards from the James Beard Foundation.

According to his company, Gruppo Chiarello, the former Food Network star died in Napa, California, while receiving treatment for an extreme allergic reaction that resulted in anaphylactic shock, which caused his death.

His family said in a statement:

We deeply mourn the loss of our beloved patriarch Michael. His culinary brilliance, boundless creativity, and unwavering commitment to family were at the core of his being.

He brought people together through the joy of shared meals, fostering lasting memories around the table. As we navigate this profound loss, we hold dear the moments we cherished with him, both in his kitchens and in our hearts. His legacy will forever live on in the love he poured into every dish and the passion he instilled in all of us to savor life’s flavors.

Several of his fans expressed their outrage at the chef’s untimely death on X (previously Twitter).

Celebrity chef Robert Irvine posted, โ€œA very sad day for me personally and the culinary world. My thoughts and Prayers go out to family and teammatesโ€ฆ RIP my Dear friend you will be sorely missed.โ€

A second user Tweeted โ€œVery sad to hear one of my favorite chefs, Michael Chiarello has died. He had a severe allergic reaction last week. Allergic reactions are not benign.โ€

A third personย mourned, โ€œMichael Chiarello passed away. God that sucks. He was one of the first chefs I looked up to when I first started cooking 20 years ago. Seemed like such a cool guy. Awful stuff.โ€

Chiarello has been left behind by his ex-wife, Eileen Gordon, whom he married in 2003 and divorced in 2019, as well as his four children, Aidan, Margaux, Felicia, and Giana.

What Did Michael Chiarello Achieve During His Career?

The chef is best known for hosting the Food Network show “Easy Entertaining with Michael Chiarello” for 10 seasons beginning in 2003. The series won three Emmys between 2003 and 2006.

Chiarello has been featured on a number of other cooking shows in addition to “Top Chef,” “Top Chef Masters,” “The Next Iron Chef,” “Iron Chef America,” and “Supermarket Superstar,” all of which premiered in 2013.
