We’re all here today to say goodbye to Wayne Potter, an amazing person whose presence brought light into the lives of everyone who had the chance to know him. Wayne was a very special person who was known for his kindness, fun, and deep love for his family and friends.
When we think about his life, we remember how much he touched our hearts and how his love and warmth will last for a long time. In this obituary, we celebrate Wayne Potter’s life and the lasting impact he had on our lives and the world around him.
Wayne Potter Obituary
After three years with lung cancer, Wayne Potter of Wadsworth, Ohio died on September 7, 2023. His final days were peaceful and with loved ones. Columbia Gas finished his career after he graduated from Brunswick High School in 1993.
Wayne and his twice-married wife Sonja Halstead had a lovely family. Wayne was the best stepfather to Johnny and Brittany after they had Anthony Wayne Potter.
Wayne was loved by many and enjoyed life daily. Wayne enjoyed Harley riding, 4-wheeling with the men, amusing kids, and the Cleveland Browns. Wayne was “Ford Tough” because he idolized his dad. He proudly joined The Masons, Eagles, Clays Park, and Galaxy.
Wayne was traditional and adored Sundays with his Aunt Paula’s Italian cooking and his Italian family. The family was everything to Wayne. If he didn’t pick on you, you weren’t family.
His wife and caretaker Sonja, sons Anthony Potter & Johnny Halstead, daughter Brittany (Andrew) Sidol, parents Wayne and Bernice Potter, sister Cindy (Joe) Moran, god son & nephew Kevin Moran, niece Kayla Lauro (Joe), grandmother Gloria Palmentera, in-laws Paul & Patti Payne, sister-in-laws Stephanie Payne and Deborah Wise survive Wayne.

Rosie and Lucy, his constant friends, and other cousins, aunts, and uncles survive him. Wayne’s grandparents Neal & Louise Potter, grandfather John Palmentera, brother-in-law Chuck Payne, and first love Shelby died before him.
Wayne Potter was lovely inside and out. His gorgeous smile lit up the room. He truly cared for others. His influence on so many lives will be remembered. He will be missed forever.
Friends and family are invited to his Celebration of Life on Friday, October 13, 2023, from 12-4:30 pm in the Starlight Banquet Room at The Galaxy Restaurant & Banquet Center 201 Park Centre Drive, Wadsworth, Ohio 44281.
Family friend Tom Fisher will officiate a private family service later. The family would like to thank Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center nurses for their extra love and care for Wayne during his lengthy battle.
