Teena Marie’s Daughter Alia Rose Was the One Who Found Her Mother Dead
As everyone was getting ready for the holidays in December 2010, the globe learned with sadness that R&B sensation Teena Marie had passed away suddenly. It is thought that the artist, who also went by the name Lady T, passed away in her California home from natural causes. Lady T was given this name by her friend and colleague, Rick James.
Unfortunately, her daughter Alia Rose, who was 19 at the time, was the first to witness her mom in that situation. Following multiple attempts to rouse her mother from her slumber, the frightened young woman dialed 911 in order to request assistance. Later, the terrifying exchange she had with the emergency services operator was made public, revealing her terrifying ordeal.
Only a few weeks prior, the adolescent had saved her mother’s life. Following Teena Marie’s death, her publicist Lynn Jeter disclosed that a month prior, Teena Marie had also experienced a seizure while watching a movie with Alia Rose. Alia Rose intervened right away and dialed 911.

For Alia Rose, this was a difficult time, and she was even more heartbroken when, the day after turning 19, her mother passed away. She claimed that she feigned that Teena Marie was on tour for the first few months following her mother’s death. That was helpful at first, but reality quickly caught up with her.
When it finally dawned on Alia Rose that her mother was no longer with her, she had to begin learning how to live alone. Her already challenging circumstances were made worse by the incident, and she had times when she thought she was going crazy.
Her faith in God was the most beneficial thing for her. In an interview, Alia Rose stated, “My mom always instilled a spiritual relationship, and that’s what keeping me going right now.” She continued by saying that the fact that she is one with God has aided in her recovery. She also received messages from other famous people, like Beyonce.
Since her mother’s death, Alia Rose has continued to honor her in numerous ways. It was revealed in 2012 that Alia Rose would release the final songs her mother had recorded at her Pasadena home studio. The song was from the CD “Beautiful,” which was the surviving daughter’s heartbreaking endeavor.
