Born Suzanne Marie Mahoney on October 16, 1946, and passing away on October 15, 2023, she was an American actress, novelist, and businesswoman in the wellness and health sector. She portrayed Carol Foster Lambert in Step by Step (1991–1998) and Chrissy Snow in Three’s Company (1977–1981).
In addition to two autobiographies, four diet manuals, and a book of poetry, Somers authored over 25 volumes. She was also well-recognized for promoting the fitness equipment called ThighMaster. Despite the fact that she wrote 14 best-selling books, most of which dealt with health and well-being, physicians took issue with her advocacy of complementary cancer therapies and bioidentical hormone replacement therapy.

Just two weeks after her death, the coroner reportedly disclosed Suzanne Somers’ official cause of death. The late actress’s death certificate, which The Blast was able to secure on Thursday, October 26, states that she passed away from breast cancer that had spread to her brain.
Hydrocephalus and hypertension, the underlying diseases, were also contributing causes. Somers passed away on October 15 without having an autopsy performed; instead, a biopsy determined the cause of death.

R. Couri Hay, a publicist, reported her death. Couri stated in the statement, “Suzanne Somers passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of October 15th. She survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years.”
She wrote, holding a picture of herself and her spouse Hamel, “As you know, I had breast cancer two decades ago, and every now and then it pops up again, and I continue to bat it down. I have used the best alternative and conventional treatments to combat it. This is not new territory for me. I know how to put on my battle gear and I’m a fighter.”

Somers spent 23 years fighting cancer. Additionally, the star revealed on Instagram in July that her breast cancer had come back. In 2000, she received her initial cancer diagnosis.

Suzanne Somers Tributes Pour in After Actress’s Death at 76
Following Suzanne Somers’ Sunday morning death at 76, her friends and fans are paying respect. Her longtime publicist, R. Couri Hay, told PEOPLE she died. “Suzanne Somers passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of October 15th. She survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years,” Hay wrote on behalf of the actress’ family.
Somers died at home with her husband, Alan Hamel, son Bruce Somers Jr., and other family members. Her legendary roles in Three’s Company and Step by Step drew internet tributes. Stacy Keanan, who portrayed Dana Foster on the seven-season family sitcom Step by Step, called Somers a “bright, buoyant spirit, very kind, funny, and generous of heart.”
“She was universally adored on the set of Step by Step, and when anyone asked what it was like to work with her, I found myself saying often that to know her was to love her,” she told PEOPLE in a statement. “Along with her many creative gifts, Suzanne was also a brilliant business person. As her “TV daughter,” she was so warm and nurturing towards me. I thought she was just flawless. I will miss her, but was just lucky to have known her.”
On Instagram, Christine Lakin, who played Alicia “Al” Lambert, called Somers “the most glamorous person” she had encountered, with a “warmth and humor” that made her “real and down to earth.”

“She was an icon yes, but she was also an inspiration in the early fight for equal pay in the entertainment industry,” Lakin continued, adding, “She was a 2nd mom of sorts to me in for formative years of my childhood. She had the best relationship with Patrick Duffy and the two of them set the tone for what was an idyllic experience.”
