Tony Horton, the creator of P90X and a trainer, frequently shares motivational messages and exciting training videos on his Instagram page, but a recent post stood out from the others. In it, Horton discloses that he has received a diagnosis of Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, a shingles-related condition.

“What started as a perfectly normal day ended up with a trip to the emergency room and a diagnosis of Ramsay Hunt Syndrome,” he wrote in the post on Wednesday. “This battle has taught me quite a few lessons; many lessons I thought I had already learned, and thought I was putting into practice.”

“Shingles is caused by stress and apparently I’ve been stressed and wasn’t even aware of it,” he continued. “Now it’s time for me to look at how I suppress my emotions and try to fight through everything with exercise alone.”

A few days later, he became aware that he couldn’t close his right eye and that he drooled whenever he tried to sip water. He claims, “The pain and burning got worse.” After he visited the emergency room, the physicians diagnosed him with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome. After being released, he returned to the ER when his symptoms worsened.

“I’ve had balance issues, vertigo, intense pain, vomiting—I was literally vomiting in the waiting room while they were trying to get me in a bed,” he says. “This is the most intense thing I’ve been through and I’ve broken legs and shattered kneecaps. It’s relentless and there are so many things going on at once.”

Power Nation Fitness, a new health and wellness brand by Tony Horton, aims to enhance overall wellness through a special “Power of Four” regimen that includes exercise, mindfulness, diet, and supplementation.

In support of this project, Tony is currently hosting a brand-new web series called “Power Up With Tony Horton,” in which he participates in sports, golf, the ninja course, and cutting-edge new fitness regimens like DDPYoga alongside a special celebrity guest. The show includes in-depth discussions about the guests’ jobs and planned projects in addition to these enjoyable activities.
