Like with any endeavor, Chip Gaines and his wife Joanna met after Baylor College, but destiny had a hand in it as well. Soon after being married, Joanna established her home accessories business, Magnolia, and the pair bought their first building together, demolished it, and refurbished it.

After eight years, they expanded their business to include a real estate brokerage, construction company, design firm, and the Magnolia Villas home complex, all while managing the incredible task of reconciling the birth of four children.

Chip Gaines and Joanna are enthusiastic about assisting clients in realizing their ideas by guiding them through every step of the design and construction process.

The Gaines family has been residents of Waco for more than ten years, and they take pleasure in cooperating to complete a project that will simultaneously improve the beauty of Waco and all of Texas’ cities.

After that, he played baseball for a year at North Lake College, where Baylor Bears baseball coach Mickey Sullivan observed him during a game. After transferring to Baylor for his sophomore year, Gaines was dismissed from the baseball team shortly after Sullivan’s retirement.

In 1998, he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Baylor. Gaines first got to know Joanna Stevens in 2001, and the two eventually got married in 2003. The couple resides in Waco, Texas, and has five children at this time.

During his second year at Baylor, Gaines began his profession in real estate by flipping properties from one property to another. In the years following his marriage to Joanna, he and Joanna continued to run their property-flipping business, which eventually grew to incorporate a retail component.

The Gaines had already established themselves as local real estate renovators in the Waco region prior to the release of Fixer Upper. They had a small crew and had up to thirty different contractors working for them.
