When Kenny Chesney was riding a State Police horse and wouldn’t get down, he and McGraw got into a fight with police officials in Buffalo, New York, in 2000. After neighboring police officers thought the horse was being stolen, McGraw came to Chesney’s aid.

Faith Hill and Tim Mcgraw Meet
Hill was divorced from her first husband, Daniel Hill, and McGraw had a girlfriend when they first met in 1994 at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville.
“For me, there was an intense physical attraction. I guess my girlfriend saw it in my eyes,” McGraw told Billboard. “She said, ‘I don’t want you around her.'”
In an Instagram post from 2018, McGraw shared memories of their first meeting, which he dedicated to his wife. “From the first time we met, I knew (she didn’t!) that she was the love of my life forever…. no matter the ups and downs, the happy and sad or the good and bad,” he wrote in his letter. “She’s so special and so loved by us.”
Hill and record producer Scott Hendricks were engaged by 1996. “If someone is going to judge my character because I was engaged to somebody and then I left him for somebody else — ‘Oh, okay, now she’s a slut and a bad person’ — I can’t control that,” said Hill to People in reference to that period of their relationship. However, I wasn’t going to let Tim get away from me.
Tim McGraw’s Career
Curb Records first became aware of McGraw in 1990. McGraw recorded a demo single and sent his father a copy. While driving with Tug one day, a man who was friends with Curb Records executives heard the demo and suggested that Curb gets in touch with the young vocalist.
He was able to present his video to Curb officials a few weeks later, and they signed him to a recording contract. Released on March 29, 1991, “What Room Was the Holiday In” marked McGraw’s debut; it was not included in the Billboard Hot Country Songs list at the time of release.
The former program director for WSM-FM in Nashville stated that he added the song to the station’s playlist because it showed “undeniable promise” in a 2001 Billboard retrospective on McGraw’s career.
Another former program director at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s WXTU recalled that McGraw’s debut single was “terrible” but that he booked the singer to make an appearance at the station because of his father’s fame.
Tim McGraw, McGraw’s debut album, was not well received by critics and was not a commercial success when it was released in April 1993, two years later. This is the only studio album he has never had that neither enters the Top Country Albums lists nor receives a music recording sales certification.
Tim McGraw released three more singles: “Two Steppin’ Mind,” “Memory Lane,” and “Welcome to the Club.” The album itself did not chart, and none of them made the country Top 40.
Joe Diffie co-wrote “Memory Lane” and “Tears in the Rain,” another song on the album. The song “Memory Lane” was first released on Keith Palmer’s 1991 self-titled debut album.
