In 2007, Okonma, Hodgy, Left Brain, and Casey Veggies established Odd Future. The Odd Future Tape, their debut mixtape, was self-released in November 2008. Okonma released Bastard, his debut solo mixtape, on December 25, 2009.

The mixtape placed 32nd on Pitchfork Media’s 2010 Top Albums list. Okonma released the “Yonkers” music video on February 11, 2011. Many online media outlets covered the video. An iTunes version with a third verse was released.
