Are Leah Pruett and Tony Stewart the Fastest Couple in Motorsports Right Now?

During his recent visit on “The Adam Carolla Show,” Stewart raised a fascinating query: Are Leah and him the fastest couple in motorsports? In a lighthearted way, Tony Stewart, the owner of a NASCAR team, asked Adam Carolla, a semi-retired driver, an intriguing question. He declared:

“We are trying as a couple, Leah and I are trying to figure out if we’re the fastest couple in motorsports right now.”

Dwelling into the details, Stewart added:

“I’ve driven her top fuel car. I ran 322 miles an hour. She’s ran like 336. And that was a topic on our way to dinner the other night of ‘I wonder if there’s a couple that’s faster than us right now.'”

But when host Adam Carolla brought up the name of Andy Green—a former fighter jet pilot who has held the world land speed record since 1997—his idea was shot down.

Returning our attention to the racing, Tony Stewart’s first full-time season in Top Fuel ended in disappointment as he lost in round two of the finals at Pomona Dragstrip by a slender margin of 0.03 seconds.

Tony Stewart’s Racing Career

Tony Stewart’s first competitive go-kart was in Westport, Indiana, in 1979. His first championship came in 1980. He won a World Karting Association championship in 1987 as a child racing go-karts.

He raced TQ (three-quarter) midgets in the United Midget Racing Association (UMRA) until 1991 when he moved up to the USAC series with the support of his karting sponsor and friend Mark Dismore. Stewart was USAC Rookie of the Year in 1991, National Midget Series Champion in 1994 and 1995, and Silver Crown Series Champion in 1995.

Stewart retained his RCR contract to drive the No. 33 Oreos/Ritz Chevrolet in 2013. He won the first Nationwide Series event at Daytona by overtaking Regan Smith on the last lap. Still, his win was overshadowed by worry because Smith had been turned, and Kyle Larson had flown into the catch fence, completely slicing off the front of his car and injuring 28 grandstand spectators (2 critically).

Stewart finished 41st in the Daytona 500 the next day after crashing with Kevin Harvick and Kasey Kahne on lap 35. He recovered by finishing 8th at Phoenix and 11th in Las Vegas. Stewart lost a tire on lap 3 and cut a brake line at Bristol, completing 20 laps down and out of the running for the win.

Stewart was scheduled to return to the Xfinity Series for the 2020 Pennzoil 150 on Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s road circuit, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced a cancellation.
