Hudson was well-liked by other writers and members of the literary community, and he was well known for his large heart and excellent listening skills. Hudson was born on September 12, 1971, in Muncie, Indiana.
After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve. He went on to earn an MFA from Brown and a degree from the University of Texas in Austin.
His critically lauded collection of short tales on the first Gulf War, “Dear Mr. President,” was published in 2002. He was also included in Granta’s 2007 list of the top 20 emerging American novelists. His fantasy book “Gork, the Teenage Dragon” was released in 2017.
