Marco Troper, who is Susan Wojcicki’s son, was found dead in his dorm room at Clark Kerr Campus on a Tuesday afternoon. Campus spokesperson Janet Gilmore said this sad event happened on February 13 at 4:23 p.m.
Even though the Berkeley Fire Department tried to save him and UC Berkeley police came quickly, Marco was pronounced dead right there. His grandmother, Esther Wojcicki, told SFGATE that they think Marco died because of taking too much of a drug they don’t know much about.

The family is waiting for a special report that checks for drugs in the body, which might take up to 30 days, to know exactly why Marco died so suddenly. Marco was in his first year at UC Berkeley, studying math. He lived in the Clark Kerr dorms, not far from the main part of the campus.
Marco came from Los Altos and his family is well-known in Silicon Valley. His mom, Susan Wojcicki, was the CEO of YouTube, and his aunt, Anne Wojcicki, started and runs 23andMe, a genetics company.
His grandmother said Marco was really good at math and was known for being smart, curious, and creative. His death is a big loss for his family, friends, and everyone at UC Berkeley, as he was a young student with a lot of potential for the future.
