The mourning over the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Thursday, 8th September was a sad day for the entire world after Queen Elizabeth died at the age of 96. Buckingham Palace declared that the honourable Queen had a peaceful death at Balmoral Castle, Scotland. She was Britain’s longest-serving monarch, and the Queen celebrated her Platinum Jubilee in June by declaring a national holiday. She has been in charge of the throne, taking care of her people since 1952.
The Royal Family’s official Twitter account uploaded this statement, “The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family,” “We mourn the passing of a cherished sovereign profoundly, and much-loved mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms, and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world. During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection on which The Queen was so widely held.”
But with the end of her time in life comes the end of her reign. Now, Prince Charles III, the son of Queen Elizabeth, is taking over her throne and is announced the King of Britain. Even if everything is in place, certain confusion exists after the new King has been announced. Will Britain’s currency change with Prince Charles III taking the oath? Change in Britain’s currency: Will that happen?
As we all know, Queen Elizabeth’s image is featured in the currency. So, will Britain’s new currency be issued in recent times? She has been a prominent figure all over the universe for almost a century now. So, the sudden replacement of her image may come as a shock to many but it is about to happen. After the news broke out, The Bank of England which acts as the central bank for the entire United Kingdom has confirmed using the Queen’s image on the currencies for now.
The body issued a statement for Britain’s new currency that read, “As the first monarch to feature on Bank of England banknotes, the Queen’s iconic portraits are synonymous with some of the most important work we do,” “Current banknotes featuring the image of Her Majesty The Queen will continue to be legal tender.”
“A further announcement regarding existing Bank of England banknotes will be made once the mourning period has been observed.” An interesting fact is that the first ever £1 that was issued with the Queen’s image was in 1960 as The Washington Post has reported. As a matter of fact, the Queen’s image is also seen on the official bills of Canada, coins used in New Zealand as well as the Eastern Caribbean central bank money.
Moreover, the Queen’s image is used in many other official sections. Like the stamps have the Queen’s image that is also in question whether it will change or not. The monarch’s long reign had made her a part of the daily activities of the people of Britain in some way or another. So, for now, the Queen’s image will be in the currency and other official segments until further changes are made to Britain’s new currency.
Will the Currencies and Other Official Bills Feature King Charles III’s?
From Prince Charles III to the new King of Britain, he was in the line of succession. The 73-year-old King will be reigning and he has a lot of duties to serve. Now that he is king, his elder son Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton have got new titles. Prince William has received the title of Prince of Wales and Kate is the Princess of Wales. But with power comes a lot of responsibility. Though the images of Queen Elizabeth II will be changed in the currencies and stamps as of now, in the future, it is going to happen. Britain’s new currency will soon be available to the people. But how soon?
With King Charles making his mark as the ruling Royal, his face will soon replace the image of his mother’s in the official Britain new currencies and stamps. The replacement process of the banknotes for Britain’s new currency can take at least 2 months and when it comes to the coins, the process could be longer.
Nevertheless, the change of Britain’s new currency will be happening even if it is time-consuming. However, in certain cases, the changes cannot be made. As the reports claims, Queen Elizabeth’s Royal Cypher ERII is in over 100,000 Royal Mail post boxes. So, it will be a next to impossible task and that’s why these will probably remain unchanged. However, in the case of the new postal boxes, the official monarch’s Royal Cypher will be used. Thus, everything is not going to change.

A new monarchy after such a prosperous reign of the late Queen is what the world is looking forward to. The initials, currencies, and the Royal Cypher may change but Queen will forever remain in the hearts of her people. She had lived a life of glory and took good care of her people.
