Chris Perez, who was married to Selena Quintanilla and lost her in a tragic accident more than 20 years ago, still takes time to remember and honor her in public. Perez recently shared a picture of himself and his late wife that had never been seen before.
Selena and Chris are sitting at a table in what looks like a restaurant in the picture. Selena is wearing a white button-down shirt in the picture, and Perez is wearing a white t-shirt and round glasses to match. A time stamp on the photo says that it was taken on March 3, 1994. If the camera had the right date, Selena was 22 years old when the picture was taken, and Perez was 23.
“So, just found this pic,” Perez wrote on Instagram. “Two kids… trying to find their way. About to turn 23 and 24 years old. Can’t remember who took it…I think this was in Florida??? We were on the road and touring so much that sometimes, things get jumbled up in my mind. Good times were had, for sure!”
Her memory is still alive, and it is mostly due to the efforts of the Quintanilla family as well as the love and support of Selena’s original audience. Despite this, many people have conflicted opinions and have accused the Quintanilla estate of profiting off of the late singer’s name.
Suzette Quintanilla and A.B. Quintanilla, Selena’s siblings, appeared on Good Morning America in 2022 to discuss their sister’s postmortem album, titled “Moonchild Mixes,” as well as her new single, titled “Como Te Quiero Yo A Ti.”
Referring to the songs in the album, A.B. Quintanilla said it took him “over a year” to produce the new arrangements of all the songs because “there [were] a lot of obstacles to overcome. Everything was recorded on vinyl, so we had to kind of fuse the old school ways with the new school ways.”
Even though critics are happy about the new materials, they have said what they think about them. Something that doesn’t bother the Quintanillas. “Who says that? ” Suzette said during Good Morning America.
“We’re still going to do what we want with our music, with our sister, with our band,” she assured. “I hope people understand that everything that we do, we do with love and care and beauty.”

On April 16, 2023, Selena Quintanilla, one of the most famous Mexican-American artists, would have been turning 52 years old and celebrating her birthday. Sadly, she passed away in 1995. Despite the fact that her life was cut short at such a young age, her family and the Latino community will not allow her legacy to be forgotten.
To this day, almost 28 years after her passing, the music industry has continued to pay tribute to and honor the late Selena Quintanilla, also known as “the Queen of Tejano music.” Her fans continue to play her music, and the Quintanilla family does everything in their power to keep her name and image alive.
Selena Quintanilla is more than just her head-bopping single “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom” and her internationally famous song “Como La Flor.” For the Latino community, she is more than that. Selena is not solely defined by her impressive dancing routines or her signature purple outfit. The ever-shining star is a symbol of Latinx people and their culture.
