“In the Heights” is yet another plan that COVID-19 Pandemic has spilled water over. Based on the famous musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Quiara Alegría Hudes in the heights were expected to be released in 2020 but got delayed due to the Coronavirus outbreak. Jon M. Chu directed the film and Quiara Alegria Hudes did the screenplay.

On June 4, 2021,” In the Heights” premiered at the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival, where critics gave it a score of 99%, making it a huge success. 

This famous musical has already received 4 Tony Awards, and the film is expected to be a hit.

In the leading role, we will find Anthony Ramos as Usnavi De La Vega.

Prague- Lin plays the piragua guy( a small role with one solo song).

Brooklyn 99 famous star Stephanie Beatriz who we famously recognize as Rosa Diaz, will be seen as Carla.

The rest of the cast is Corey Hawkins, Leslie Grace, and Melissa Barrera as Benny, Nina, and Vanessa, Olga Merediz as Abuela Claudia, Daphne Rubin-Vega as Daniela, Gregory Diaz IV as Sonny De La Vega.

Christopher Jackson and Seth Stewart, who we have seen in original Broadway, will also be doing minor Cameo roles, and Patrick Page will also be making an entrance. Noah Catala is playing Graffiti Pete, Jimmy Smits is Kevin,  and Dascha Polanco is Cuca.

Direction and screenplay are done by Jon M. Chu and Quira Alegria Hudes, whereas music and Choreography are by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Christopher Scott.

In the heights is going to be the most loved musical movie of the year. When the 2020 pandemic hit pause on everyone’s happiness, the producers announced the release of In the heights, which caused the flow of Dopamine in everyone’s veins. However, this happiness was momentary for the long awaited fans as the International lockdown shut off the theatres, and the movie got delayed a year. 

For all those “In the heights” lovers, the film is back with an IMDb rating of 7.7/10  already. 

The plot of the movie follows Usnavi, owner of a Bodega in a Hispanic –American Community. This community lies in New York City, famously known as Washington Heights. 

Usnavi had a dream of opening a business in his home country. So, he’s faced with the dilemma of closing his shop and settling back in the Dominican Republic, his home country.

Usnavi’s life changes when he falls in love with Vanessa, who works in a beauty salon while he’s still in the dilemma of closing the shop.

In the heights: Why is it not Released Yet?

Unlike most movies, the reason for the delay in the heights was not usual. For the awaiting fans, it was a moment of profound sadness. The movie was all set to release in June 2020, but the world facing a pandemic along with international lockdown was the reason why director Jon M. Chu decided to delay it a year.

He, in his tweet, said that he doesn’t want his movie to miss a celebration and that it will now be released in 2021.

It is expected to release on June 18, 2021, in the UK but will be released eight days before that in the US, i.e., on June 10. It will also be released on HBO Max on June 11, 2021.

The trailer of the heights was released on December 12, 2019, on Warner Bros.’s official youtube channel. A year and a half later, it has crossed over 11M views along with over 10k comments.

The trailer starts with New York city getting life as its residents take the streets to sing about their dreams.

No sooner than the music they realize their dreams are far away, and they have to face issues related to their socio-economic background.
