Is Loki Gay? Know About Loki’s Sexuality That Was Revealed

The character that has turned out to be your favourite villain, Loki is charismatic. Loki is one of the vibrant, mischievous, and colourful characters that Marvel comics have introduced us to. From plotting schemes to overpower his “thunderer” brother to occasionally teaming up with the Avengers, Loki has done it all in the comics. While the comic book character has always been popular, Tom Hiddleston’s portrayal of Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe took the character to new heights.

In the recent Loki series, we saw the character coming out as Queer and that has fans losing their minds over it. So, is Loki gay? Well, let’s find out.

The Queerness of Loki: Is Loki Gay?

The new Disney+ Loki surprised fans on its third episode revealing Loki to be queer. In the third episode, Sylvie enquires Loki whether he has any prince or women in his life. To which Loki replies shocks the audience. So, this is how the conversation went. Sylvie said, “You’re a prince. Must’ve been would-be-princesses, or perhaps, another prince.” And Loki’s reply to this is, “A bit of both. I suspect the same as you.”

This revelation creates a huge question for fans about the sexuality of the God of mischief. So, is Loki gay? Well, the truth is in the MCU this revelation points out Loki as bisexual.  While it is truthful to the source material, the comic book counterpart of the beloved MCU character is completely gender fluid. Marvel also took a long time to confirm the sexuality of Loki in the comics as well. In a panel of Young Avengers #15 in 2013 and later in Loki: Agent of Asgard, Loki was revealed to be gender fluid and affinity to both genders.

So, what does it mean for the character now that Marvel Cinematic Universe has also confirmed Loki is gay? Well, it opens many opportunities for the character and the creators in MCU will surely explore that. In the season of the highly praised Loki series, we saw a love angle between Loki and Sylvie. However, that halted when she betrayed Loki in the last episode.  Now with Loki gay or a confirmed bisexual, creators of the show can continue with the love angle between Loki and Sylvie or introduce a new character to further dive into the queer side of the character.

However, at this point, there is no confirmation regarding that. So, fans will have just to wait till the character appears next on the screen.

Impact of Loki being bisexual

While Loki was originally introduced as an antagonist in the MCU through Thor and the first Avengers movie, fans have come to love the character due to the mischievous side and charm of Tom Hiddleston. So, the revelation of Loki to be a bisexual character is bound to have a wide impact on the bi community.

While the director Kate Herron commented that Loki’s bisexuality exists only in that scene from episode 3, even fans can understand that this is all just a clever ruse to hide the character’s future in the MCU. Well, only time will tell. However, this is also a brilliant reminder to today’s society that no matter what your sexuality is, you do not need to prove it to anyone.

Also, the makers of the series must be appreciated for making Loki gay or rather bisexual. Bringing more queer characters to the screen will only help people from the LGBTQ+ community to come forward and be proud of themselves. Plus, by making a fan favourite character such as Loki bi, the showrunners have also tried to establish a connection to connect with all the people, especially the young ones who are struggling to come out and accept their sexuality proudly.

Since the character was introduced in the Marvel movies, the character has received wide popularity. Be it his charm or impishness, the character has always been well received. So, now that Loki’s gay rumours are cleared, it surely will provide great opportunities to the creative team at Marvel studios to make the character more humane and touch the lives of more people.
