A man and his son were both caught in an avalanche while skiing in Breckenridge, Colorado, and the father was unable to aid his kid. According to a report published by the Colorado Avalanche Information Center on Sunday, the father and son were backcountry skiing at an elevation of about 11,600 feet when, at 1 p.m., packed snow cascaded down the side of the mountain, partially burying the father and completely burying the youngster.
The father managed to break away and look for his missing kid, but to no avail. He reportedly relocated to an area with mobile coverage and dialed 911, but when officials arrived around 3 p.m., a rescue dog discovered his kid dead. Although neither skier’s name was made public, the Denver Post reported that they were a father and son.

As reported by the local information hub, the son was the second person to lose their life in an avalanche this winter. The director of the Colorado Avalanche Information Center, Ethan Greene, told CBS in November that deadly avalanche accidents are likely to increase as a result of climate change because of the greater temperature fluctuation throughout the ski season, leading to more “rain-on-snow” events even during the coldest months of the year.
