The co-owner of a well-known Atlanta nightclub was allegedly shot and killed Saturday morning in front of his own Club, according to the authorities.
The man who was discovered dead in front of the Republic Lounge, which is located at 990 Brady Avenue NW close to 11th Street NW, was identified as Michael Gidewon by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.
According to Atlanta police, when officers arrived just before 7 a.m., they discovered Gidewon suffering from a gunshot wound. He showed no sign of life. At the site, doctors pronounced him dead.
Although it was not immediately evident why or who shot Gidewon, authorities have not yet announced any arrests in relation to his passing.
On Saturday night, a modest memorial started to take shape near the location where a 50-year-old man was discovered shot to death the previous day.

According to documents submitted to the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office, Gidewon has been operating as a nightlife entrepreneur for the past 35 years. Due to the conflict, he and his younger brother Alex fled Eritrea to East Africa. The brothers would learn the ins and outs of the nightlife industry by working as valets.
Alex ran the now-defunct Compound nightclub as the two finally worked their way up to owning two clubs a block apart.
Gidewon was well-known in and of himself. He frequently socialized with, hosted, and made friends with upcoming performers as well as well-known performers like T.I., Young Jeezy, Usher, Nelly, Jermaine Dupri, Lil Baby, and Ludacris.
He also did not hesitate to participate in humanitarian endeavors, including assisting with multiple Thanksgiving dinner drives. Selam, Gidewon’s wife, and their four children are left behind.
Gidewon’s friends and relatives were unable to be reached for comment, and neither the clubs nor anybody else has made any public announcements on social media.
The Republic Lounge is situated in the western Home Park area, which is home to a variety of well-known bars, eateries, multi-use buildings, and other businesses.
Over the past few years, there has been a considerable amount of violence in the neighborhood. FOX 5 has only covered a few such incidents.
Four people were shot outside the Compound in the early morning hours of January 2020, in October 2020, there were reports of a shooting along Brady Avenue close to Howell Mill Road, in January 2021, seven people were stabbed inside the Republic Lounge, and in May 2022, a man was apprehended after a brief chase after police say he was firing a gun into the air outside the same location.
