Euphoria has a talented group of young rising stars, but Zendaya, who plays the notoriously unreliable narrator Rue Bennett, is the star of the show. According to new reports, she’s getting paid like a star for the new season. Matthew Belloni of Puck wrote about some of the most shocking TV salaries in a reader mailbag column for his Hollywood-focused newsletter.
Zendaya has won the Outstanding Lead Actress Emmy for both seasons of Euphoria. She “just closed a big re-negotiation” that puts her per-episode salary in the same range as Friends, which is around $1 million per episode.
For the second season of the show, Zendaya became an executive producer. At the age of 25, she was the youngest person ever to be nominated for an Emmy for producing. This followed her historic win in 2020 for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Even though people have different opinions about the show, both fans and critics agree that her acting is good.

People have talked a lot about how much Euphoria’s stars get paid, especially after Sydney Sweeney said in a 2022 Hollywood Reporter profile, “They don’t pay actors like they used to, and with streamers, you no longer get residuals. The big stars still get paid, but I have to give my lawyer 5 percent, my agents 10 percent, and my business manager 3 percent or something like that. Every month, I have to pay my publicist more than my mortgage.
Belloni also named a few other A-list actors who make seven-figure salaries on TV, such as Michael Keaton on Dopesick, Jason Sudekis on Ted Lasso, and Elisabeth Moss on Shining Girls. However, he said that John Krasinski on Jack Ryan is the highest-paid TV actor right now. (Krasinski’s supposed $2 million per episode includes his role as executive producer, and Belloni does say that figuring out these salaries is “not an exact science.”)
Zendaya’s salary is obviously so high because she has won Emmys and is doing well in her career outside of Euphoria. She is a key part of two of Hollywood’s biggest movie series: Marvel’s Spider-Man and Dune. The second part of Dune comes out this November.

Euphoria is one of HBO’s most popular shows, and it’s not likely that it will end after its third season. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Zendaya said that she hopes the show will follow the main characters as they go to college or become young adults.
“I think it’ll be exciting to explore the characters out of high school. I want to see what Rue looks like in her sobriety journey, and how chaotic that might look. But also with all the characters, in the sense where they’re trying to figure out what to do with their lives when high school is over and what kind of people they want to be,” she said.
