The Little Mermaid Trailer at the Oscars
On the Oscars stage, Halle Bailey and Melissa McCarthy debuted the premier trailer for their eagerly anticipated movie The Little Mermaid. Fans get their most in-depth preview of the Disney live-action action in the two-minute clip.
Bailey said on stage, “It has been such an honor stepping into the famous character of Ariel,” before being cut off by applause. It was a once-in-a-lifetime encounter, according to the speaker. The video’s opening scene shows a boat colliding and Prince Eric (Jonah Hauer-King) drowning before Ariel (Bailey) rescues him by bringing him to the shore.
As shown in the teaser, which features Ariel swimming through the water with Flounder (voiced by Jacob Tremplay) by her side before meeting King Triton (Javier Bardem): “You transgressed the law. Triton reprimands her, “You traveled to the above world. “This preoccupation with people must end.”

There was a man drowning. I have to save him,” says Bailey. I merely wish to learn more about them. In the image, Ursula (McCarthy), the sea witch who offers to assist her in becoming human before guffawing evilly, also makes her first appearance. (In a preview released last month, we got our first listen to the laugh.)

After meeting Scuttle the bird (voiced by Awkwafina) and Sebastian the crab (voiced by Daveed Diggs), the image changes to show Ariel walking on two feet. Of course, Ariel sings the tune to “Under the Sea” as she navigates the sea and departs with Prince Eric in a carriage. (Recall how racists questioned whether mermaids were historically accurate?)
He is a person. King Triton exclaims angrily, “You’re a mermaid!” before Ariel retorts, “It doesn’t make us enemies.” While on a boat, Ariel and Eric go in for a kiss, giving off a glimpse of their impending romance. The Little Mermaid, directed by Rob Marshall, expands on the first animated picture by including four new songs when it hits theaters on May 26.
