‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ Achieves the Oscars’ Record-Breaking Success

The film Everything Everywhere All at Once has successfully made the jump from unexpected box office success to potential Academy Award winner status.

At the 2023 Academy Awards, the film was the clear victor, taking home seven of the eleven prizes for which it was nominated. The outcome meant that films like “The Banshees of Inisherin,” “Elvis,” and “The Fabelmans” did not win any awards.

Produced by the Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert), Everything Everywhere All at Once shook up Hollywood with its groundbreaking use of a predominantly Asian cast that included Michelle Yeoh, Stephanie Hsu, and Ke Huy Quan.

It garnered 11 nominations, more than any other 2023 film, tying the total for The Godfather Part II, Saving Private Ryan, Gandhi, Terms of Endearment, and The Joker. Comparable to the box office success of Star Wars, Schindler’s List, Lawrence of Arabia, and Gravity, it won seven Oscars. This is a rundown of all the records that Everything Everywhere All at Once managed to shatter during the Academy Awards.

Daniels, aged 35, is one of the younger directors to win Best Director; the youngest, Damien Chazelle, won for La La Land when he was just 32.
