Actor Lance Reddick, 60, has passed away. He was best known for his roles in The Wire and the John Wick films.
His representative has reportedly confirmed to several media sources that he passed away of natural causes at his Los Angeles residence. In anticipation of next week’s release of John Wick: Chapter 4, the actor has started doing interviews. The film’s New York premiere was earlier this week, and he skipped it.
In HBO’s hit crime drama The Wire, Reddick played Baltimore police lieutenant Cedric Daniels. Initially, he auditioned for the roles of Bubbles and Bunk Moreland. It was a rare prestige show with a predominantly black cast at a time when television was predominantly white.
“It wasn’t until I got off The Wire that I realised that wasn’t the normal experience,” Reddick said to the Guardian. “In retrospect I see that it was really extraordinary.”
He called it “an iconic piece of history” and said he was “very fortunate and proud of the work we did” in a 2019 interview.
Reddick has appeared on numerous television shows, including Oz, Lost, Bosch, and the leading character in the science fiction drama Fringe. He also filmed his scenes as Zeus for the upcoming Percy Jackson TV series before his untimely passing.
Reddick has been in several major motion pictures, including White House Down, Sylvie’s Love, Brother to Brother, and the critically acclaimed John Wick films. He is also speculated to have shot a part in the spin-off film Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, after his death, which will be included in the fourth feature. White Guys Can’t Jump is getting a remake, and he’ll be in it.
David Simon, a creator of The Wire, sent a statement of sorrow to the Hollywood Reporter. “A consummate professional, a devoted collaborator, a lovely soul and a friend.”
He wrote. “This is just gutting and way, way, way too soon for any of us who knew and loved him to contemplate.”

Halfway through re-watching THE WIRE comes the news that Lance Reddick has died at the horribly unfair age of 60. Wonderful actor; wonderful man. This is sad news.
