The star of “Simple Favor,” who has been a regular on the Met Gala red carpet for years, told reporters on Thursday that she would not attend this year’s event.
The star of “It Ends with Us” announced her absence from the 2023 Met Gala at Thursday’s formal reopening of Tiffany & Co. on New York’s Fifth Avenue.
Lively, 35, informed reporters on the red carpet that her devoted followers could not glimpse her at the year’s most prestigious fashion event. To which she said, “But I will be watching.”
Upon hearing a compliment on her 2022 outfit, the singer responded, “Thank you, that’s very sweet. I’ll be wearing that on my couch on Monday.”
Lively attended the event on Thursday wearing a brown leather-like belted midi dress with a plunging neckline and matching stiletto heels. Her hair was left loose and curly, and she accessorized with several large pieces of gold jewelry.
Lively has been a regular at the Met Gala since 2008, frequently attending with her husband, Ryan Reynolds, since 2012. They made their first red carpet-appearance together at that 2014 event.
She has worn Versace, Chanel, Gucci, Burberry, and more since her breakout role in Simple Favor. While serving as co-chairs with Oscar winner Regina King and Broadway superstar Lin-Manuel Miranda, Lively last year looked royal alongside Reynolds, 46.
While Reynolds looked dapper in a velvet tux, Lively accessorized her Atelier Versace gown with a crown, opera gloves, and drop earrings. Then, to everyone’s amazement, her bow turned into a long blue train, completing her new outfit.
The official theme for the 2023 Met Gala is “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” in memory of the late German fashion designer. Lagerfeld passed away in February 2019 at the age of 85.
This week she marked Lively’s first time back on the red carpet since giving birth to her fourth child with Reynolds. Betty, 3, Inez, 6, and James, 8, are all the couple’s children.
