Zayn Malik recently appeared as a guest on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast, which was announced on Tuesday (July 11). This marks his first interview in six years, making it a highly anticipated event for fans.
Zayn Malik has gained notoriety for his secretive approach to the media and conventional routes of music promotion ever since he left One Direction eight years ago.
The celebrity is formally returning to the interview scene as he gets ready for the release of his new single, “Love Like This,” though.

In a sneak peek video shared on the podcast’s social media channels, Zayn explains why he decided to come back to the spotlight at this time in a more honest manner. “I feel like we were so overexposed in the band that that’s why I took the time that I have to not even necessarily do interviews,” he said.

It’s simple to understand why Malik feels that way given that One Direction released five studio albums, four global tours, two concert videos, a documentary, and six top ten singles on the Billboard Hot 100 between 2011 and 2015. In the end, before the group’s fifth studio album was released, Zayn made the decision to depart.

In a statement from 2015, he said, “I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight.”
Zayn admits to Cooper in the preview for his upcoming interview that he became tired of the boy band stereotypes that were being used.
“They just said, ‘Oh yeah, you can be the mysterious one.’ That wasn’t necessarily my personality, I’m just chill,” he said. “I know that a lot of people have high-energy personalities, and it’s just not the way I am.”
In 2020, Zayn and model Gigi Hadid became parents to their first child, a daughter. According to the episode teaser, the singer attributes his interview-getting confidence to his daughter.
“Since I’ve had my daughter, the main thing in my mind is trying to be a good example for her,” he said. “That’s why I’m even doing this interview. I used to get a lot of anxiety around having a conversation like this, and I want her to look at me and be like, ‘Yo, my dad’s doing this!’”
Zayn also embraced his newfound love of “dad jokes” in the preview footage and talked about how his daughter had brought back “the color” to his life. On July 12, the Call Her Daddy interview with Zayn will be available. The release date of his newest song, “Love Like This,” is set for July 21.
