A look back at Tomas Tatar’s NHL Career
Tomas Tatar’s NHL Draft career began in 2009 when the Detroit Red Wings selected him in the second round. Despite spending most of his first three seasons in the minors, he kept developing his abilities. Tatar had a significant role in Grand Rapids’ 2013 Calder Cup victory as the Red Wings AHL affiliate.
He played nine games in the 2010–11 season and scored one goal while making his NHL debut. In the 2013–14 campaign, he established himself as a mainstay of the Red Wings lineup and scored 39 points in 73 games to get a new deal. He scored 29, 21, and 25 goals throughout the next three seasons, respectively.
Tatar was dealt to the Vegas Golden Knights in February 2018, where he continued to contribute offensively, scoring more than 23 goals throughout his first four NHL seasons. He was, however, traded to the Montreal Canadiens in September of that same year as part of a deal involving Max Pacioretty.
Tatar quickly assimilated into the Canadiens after moving there, and in his first season, he achieved career highs in both assists (33) and points (58). Before being dealt to the Golden Knights, he seemed to be headed for a fourth consecutive season with at least 20 goals with the Red Wings.
