Laura Jarrett is happily married to Tony Balkissoon, who is a lawyer. Tony’s father is Bas Balkissoon, a well-known Ontario-based politician, and his mother is Tahay Balkissoon. Tony graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc.) and then went on to attend Harvard Law School, where he graduated with honors in 2010.
Laura and Tony met while studying at Harvard, and their love story blossomed. They got engaged at the Paris club and tied the knot in 2012. The wedding ceremony was held at Laura’s maternal grandmother’s home in Chicago, followed by a reception under a beautiful white marquee in the backyard.

Tony Balkissoon started his career at a law firm in Chicago and later worked as a paralegal for two federal judges, first for the Honorable Manish S. Shah of the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and later for the Honorable Ann Claire Williams of the US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
In October 2016, Tony joined Loevy & Loevy as a judicial officer, and in 2018, he became a member of the Foundation Council for Legal Aid.

Laura Jarrett and Tony Balkissoon have been happily married since June 2012, and they are proud parents of two kids. Their wedding took place in Kenwood, Chicago, and it was attended by prominent guests like Barack Obama and Eric Holder.
Recently, the couple celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary in June 2022, and Laura’s mother, Valerie, shared a heartwarming Instagram post to wish them a happy anniversary, along with a rare photo from their marriage ceremony.

In April 2022, the journalist shared the news of her pregnancy on Instagram, revealing that they were expecting a baby girl due in July 2023. The family is overjoyed about the newest addition to their loving household, and James is eagerly looking forward to meeting his sibling.

Laura Jarrett was born in 1983 in Chicago, Illinois, and she is the only child of her parents. Her parents valued education and encouraged her to pursue her academic goals. She attended a high school in Chicago, where she excelled academically before moving on to university.
After completing her university education, Laura successfully passed the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) and gained admission to the prestigious Harvard Law School. During her time at Harvard, she actively participated in the Harvard Journal of Law and Gender, where she authored articles on the intersection of gender, violence, and law.
After graduating from Harvard Law School, Laura became a licensed attorney, allowing her to practice law in both state and federal courts in Illinois.
Before entering the legal profession, she served as a law clerk for Rebecca Pallmeyer in the Northern District of Illinois. Later, she continued her clerkship at the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals under the guidance of Ann C. Williams.
Laura Jarrett’s Reporting Career at CNN
After working as a trial attorney in private practice in Chicago, Laura Jarrett focused on defending individuals and corporations involved in government investigations by the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
